Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. UNITED SPANISH WAR VETERANS PROCEEDINGS FOR THE YEAR 1919 T. GANNON COMMANDER. This book is apparently the report of the Sixteenth Encampment of the United Spanish War Veterans from the Department of New York, submitted to the Legislature of the State of New York as Legislative Document No. 137. The book was edited by Thomas F. Gannon who was the Department Commander at the time of this Encampment which took place in New Rochelle, New York from July 13-16, 1919. This medium-sized hard cover book (6 ¼ x 9 inches, 623 pages) was published by J.B. Lyons of Albany, dated 1920 and most certainly a First (and probably only) Edition. The book is bound in black cloth boards with embossed framing on the covers and gilt titles on the spine. Most of the book is dedicated to a chronological record of what took place during those four days in July. It seems that the object of this organization and its annual encampments was to maintain the camaraderie of the troops who served in the Spanish-American War and continue efforts to seek support for those in need. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are a bit dust-dulled, particularly along the lower edge of the front cover but in general still very presentable and so too the gilt titles on the spine. The covers are just slightly bumped. Inside, there is a inked bookseller s price on the front endpaper but this is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages are clean and bright throughout, without toning or foxing of any kind. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder and in very nice condition as it celebrates just over 100 years.
