Front inner hinge split with webbing exposed. Binding weak and beginning to open. Panel of surface loss to ffep where someone has excised personal details. Pages decent with light general toning. The main interest in this work relates to the Beardsley line drawings; mainly in-text but some full page examples. 191pp. Further details available on request. (Uc4).

Clarke in Glendale, CA affixed inside lower front board. Minor wear to corners and spine ends; else a near fine copy. "One of the earliest narratives of the fur-trade covering experiences on the upper Missouri in 1809, and an expedition to Santa Fe, in 1821. Written from James' dictation by Nathan Niles, who, representing local newspaper criticism, destroyed nearly all copies." (Howes J49; Graff 2193; Wagner Camp 121).
