Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. Narrow folio, unpaginated, brown leather, rear joint cracking. Artist Gladys McHugh prepared the illustrations, which are presented on laminated transparencies which reveal the bodies in sequence. "The student can most effectively utilize this volume by consulting both the male and the female sections frequently and simultaneously." The key or index is printed on both sides of the cardboard flap hinged at the outer inside edge of the back cover. Thus it may be turned out or in and, thereby, brought equally close to either illustration with the book lying open.

Profusely illustrated by large full-page chromographs in full color by McHugh, with a historical introduction by the editor. Minor thin split to spine edge expertly rpaired' otherwise a near fine copy, clean and unmarked. A very scarce medical atlas and record of a unique style of documenting anatomy.

Bumped, uneven toning to spine and top edges, a few marks. Inscribed by Sitwell in blue-black ink to ffep: "For Stephen & Mary Potter, with best wishes, from Edith Sitwell", bands of offsetting to endpapers, gently toned, discrete Times Book Club stamp in black to rear pastedown. In the original spring green dust jacket, lettered in black, single purple rule and illustration to front panel: price label to front flap, unevenly toned, heavily creased, with jagged closed tear to head of spine/ top of rear panel, shorter closed tear to top of front panel. Good/ good+ A pleasing creative association copy of the first edition of Edith Sitwell's 1947 "miniature epic," inscribed to the modernist artist Mary Potter and her writer and radio producer husband, Stephen.
