Add to basketPaperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines Napoleon IIIâs close relationship with Count Camillo di Cavour as the two men sought to forge a unified Italy. The author places the topic in the broader context of Italyâs struggles for independence in the mid-19th century, especially the significant involvement of the Pope in political affairs. The book argues that Napoleon III, despite being a Catholic, was driven by liberal ideals, not blind religious devotion, and his support for Italyâs unification was a reflection of his modern, progressive political views. The author further explores how this alliance of a French emperor and an Italian statesman ultimately led to the creation of a united, independent Italy and the end of papal political rule in the country. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
