Before moving to San Francisco in 1959, he worked as a fact-checker for the New Yorker magazine for nine years. A noted San Francisco journalist, Mr. Eichelbam was a theatre and film critic for the San Francisco Examiner for 19 years before earning a professional chef's degree from the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco and deciding to begin a second career as chef, restauranteur and food writer.
