Le accuse sono infamanti: simulazione di santità, peccati contro il sesto comandamento, adescamento in confessionale e omicidio. In queste pagine riprende vita una storia dimenticata, in cui si intrecciano indissolubilmente peccato e crimine. Una storia fatta di vittime e carnefici. E chi sono le vittime di questa violenza dello spirito e della carne che, come una ragnatela, si espande nel monastero di Montecastrilli? Sono donne. Monache. Chi i carnefici? Uomini, i religiosi confessori del monastero. E, cosa che forse sorprenderà, anche la badessa, che prima è vittima e poi riversa sulle altre tutto il sangue delle proprie ferite. Eleonora Rai, coniugando la passione della narratrice e le ragioni della studiosa, ci rivela come possa essere sottile il confine tra chi abusa e chi è abusato, quando le sole leggi che governano il mondo sono quelle Ğsacreğ della gerarchia e del dominio maschile. ĞNon voglio raccontare lo scandalo, benché questi possano sembrare eventi scandalosi. Non voglio raccontare una vicenda scabrosa, sebbene scabroso possa apparire quanto accaduto. Vorrei soltanto puntare i riflettori su un palcoscenico preciso, allestito in uno spazio e in un tempo limitati: un monastero di clarisse nell'Italia centrale della prima metà del XIX secolo; ma vorrei anche che chi sta in platea, o si arrocca nella penombra della galleria, possa - con gli occhi fissi sulla scena, sui suoi attori e le sue attrici, la sua scenografia e i suoi dialoghi - realizzare come le vicende di Montecastrilli non possano restare confinate lì. Sono vicende che ci obbligano a riflettere sulla natura umana. A domandarci se le vittime di abuso mettessero in atto due secoli addietro meccanismi di autoconservazione poi così diversi rispetto a quanto accade oggi. Se chi abusava allora della propria posizione di potere per ottenere i propri scopi si avvalesse di strategie tanto lontane da quelle che vediamo ovunque intorno a noiğ. Libro.
