Map. Condition: Good Minus. Copper engraved map of the River Lagan from Belfast to Lough Neagh. Map: 6.7 in. x 12.2 in. Paper: 8 in. x 12.2 in. Scale to lower right corner; distance legend to bottom right corner. Below neatline at bottom right corner: "Bowen sculpt." Three vertical fold lines. Map is cut very close to the left and right neatlines. oinor offset staining from images on facing page. Touch of chipping and tanning along right edge. Four short closed tears on folds at edges. Age-toning to paper Survey completed in 1768. Published in "Gentleman's Magazine and Historical Chronicle" (Sylvanus Urban, Ed) in 1778. The map shows the infrastructure intended to connect the River Lagan from Belfast to the lake (Lough Neagh), which was opened in sections between 1763 and 1794. The map highlights the river, settlements, mills,roads and bridges, and navigation plans, and features distances in Irish miles.
