First Edition
Cloth. Condition: Almost Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Almost Very Good. Various (illustrator). First Edition. Red boards with gold titles on spine, blind-stamped insignia on front cover. body clean and tight, illustrated end-papers, Numerous illustrations. Red and black unclipped pictorial dust wrapper with white lettering and repaired 1" x 1/2" (down and across) tear at the spine top of the dj. This is a nice association-type copy in that this book came from the private collection of a long-time fellow (since 1955) of "The Company of Military Collectors and Historians". This book was given to him as a gift from another fellow and long-time friend/Military Artist "Eric Manders" who wrote "To Our Pal, the Big Feller-- With Many Thanks For A Beautiful Weekend" (signed) Eric and dated 7/23/71. Above the inscription is a hand-sketched rendering by the brother of Eric Manders (another military artist) "John Manders" who has signed and dated the drawing 1971 (about 5" X 5". It appears to be a very humorous drawing of their friend (the book recipient) plugging his ears as the ancient cannon (basically a slingshot with a round grenade-type device mounted on a wagon is ready to fire!) He is in uniform. My guess is that since the recipient of this book lived in the Harrisburg area and he was also active in the Gettysburg Civil War reenactments, this was probably why they were there visiting. A wonderful association copy. DIGITAL PICTURE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. (I have the name of the person to which this book was inscribed and will make it available upon request from a serious buyer).
