Emilio Lapi, "Studiò all'Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, dove ebbe come maestri R. Buonaiuti e G. Bezzuoli. A quest'ultimo dovette fare riferimento agli inizi della carriera quando ricevette dal principe A. Demidoff una commissione per diversi quadri devozionali di grandi dimensioni (per la Scuola d'insegnamento Reciproco a…San Niccolò e per la stessa chiesa, perduti). A quel tempo eseguiva anche copie nelle gallerie fiorentine, per studio e per commercio. Nel corso degli anni '40 il suo stile volse verso una forma più minuta e luminosa, di ascendenza nordica. Dal 1841 espose soprattutto opere di genere alle mostre dell'Accademia e dopo il 1845 a quelle della Società Promotrice. Un tema di genere (Un pescatore) dipinse anche sulle pareti del Caffè Michelangiolo, nel 1852. Nel 1861 partecipò alla I Esposizione Nazionale Italiana con un soggetto elaborato per il concorso Ricasoli, che venne molto apprezzato: La Battaglia di Palestro (Firenze, Galleria d'Arte Moderna di Palazzo Pitti). Si conoscono anche alcune sue caricature, fra cui quella di T. Signorini in kilt, seduto sulle nevi nei monti dell'Arran, intento a dipingere dal vero". Comanducci, ediz. 1972, vol. 3, pag. 1677. Giuseppe Calendi (1761 - 1831), Angelo Emilio Lapi (Livorno, 1769 - Firenze, 1852), Giacomo Beys (notizie 1786 - 1801). Animata scena dello sbarco degli Inglesi a Portoferraio: in primo piano numerose piccole imbarcazioni cariche di soldati si avvicinano alla banchina e un folto gruppo di dame e gentiluomini, già sbarcati, si accalca sul molo; sullo sinistra la veduta della città col Forte Stella e il faro e nello specchio di mare, oltre il porto e la Linguella, sono posizionati grossi vascelli alla fonda. Rara e bella veduta finemente incisa. Esemplare con generici difetti marginali, poco si legge la battuta della lastra, a pieni margini e in bella inchiostratura.
