The principal appeal of the book for an American reader probably will be the translation in- to understandable words of such Australian terms as "tucker," "joey," "coolibah," and many others already partly identified for those who have read the words of the Australian soldiers' favorite song, "Waltzing Matilda."White Ears, however, is given a not unfriendly character and most readers probably will applaud Mr. Lamond's ingenious happy ending that solves the ancient conflict between dog and man."
