Trade Paperback. Condition: Good. First Edition. 283 Pages. Light 3 inch corner crease to back cover bottom corner and small very light stain to top corner of half-title page. No other defects noted and interior text pages are bright, tight and white. A bilingual anthology of Chilean Poetry with Spanish on the left side and English language on the right side. Resistance is a word that very much defines the attitude of Chileans, young and old, nowadays. A great poet dies, he is buried in darkness and anonymity. New poets rise and take his place. The brilliant tradition of Neruda, Mistral and Huidobro is guarded by them with respect and devotion. But young poets of Chile, whether in exile or living in the fatherland, also discover new sources of strength and inspiration in a dialogue with the past and the future. They emerge from the mysteries of a land that seems to demand suffering in order to grow and succeed. Poets of Chile is a hymn to a culture being born again, coming out of cataclysmic darkness into a shining path. Seldom has the poetry of a Latin American country given such a magnificent proof of inspired resistance and vigorous hope. Cherish this book. It is far, far more than pages cut to a size on which words have been set down. It is history that is still being written, and the poets' voices that recount the moments of it are at times as gentle as the falling of springtime rain and at times are waves crashing against the cruel defences we have built around the peace and quiet of our lives.
