The first Czech textbook of Scotist philosophy written by Antonin Broucek (d. 1690), a Franciscan philosopher and theologian, in cooperation with Ernest/Arnost Schaff. This rare work, also known as "Domus Sapientiae Scoti", is divided into three parts in which the author deals with logic, physics and metaphysics. The 2nd part is… followed by "Tractatus de meteoris" (pages unnumbered) about meteors, hail etc. The book features an engraved frontispiece made by Daniel Wussin (Wusin, d. 1691) after Johann Friedrich Hess (I. F. Hess, d. 1673) and dated 1663; another engraved plate with a celestial sphere ("Coelum Empyreum") is between the pages 216 and 217 of the 2nd part. The enraved plate with a tree of life between the pages 212 and 213 of the 1st part is missing (cut out). Antiqua typeface; pages are decorated with headpieces, tailpieces and initials. The front endpaper has a simple recent bookplate of Petr Vopenka (1935-2015), a Czech mathematician and philosopher who also wrote a paper about the author's philosophy. This first edition is slightly different from the undated, second one. /// Parchment binding with coloured edges and metal clasps (coloured backstrip with handwritten title); hardback, [40]+279+[1]+413+[3]+[40]+85+[27] pp., 2 engraved plates, 12° (9.5 x 14.5 cm), parchment worn and yellowed, clasps slightly rusty, top edge with water stains, endpapers slightly tanned, pages yellowed, some pages have small pale water stain along top edge (barely visible), other signs of wear and age are rare (minor foxing, tiny ink stain, slightly starting hinge), one plate missing, condition: good Book Language/s: Latin.
