W. Hilgard and prepared by New York cartographer J.H. Colton reproduced in b/w only (instead of the original hand-colored map) bound-in between verso of page 391 and rear free endpaper with statement "Reprinted July, 1963" printed at top right corner. Light foxing to text block edges; light to occasionally mild foxing to interior leaves. A very good copy. According to Mississippi bookselling lore, the Mississippi Geological Survey was still offering original nineteenth century copies of several of their monographs through the mid-1980s when apparently the backstock was finally exhausted. As this book's text leaves are original with the insertion of the aforementioned facsimiles, it would seem that this book was part of a specially-bound remainder stock prepared by the Survey in 1963. Although a bookbindery ticket is not present, the style of book's buckram binding is quite similar to work done by Dixie Bookbinding Company which operated in Jackson, Mississippi from at least the early-1950s to early 1980s. {MS-Shelf#3}.…
