From February 1942 he faced the difficult task of beginning the bombing campaign against Germany, working with his British allies. Eaker believed that bombing would shorten the war and save lives: 'I would be certain,' he said after the war, 'that if we had not had strategic bombing, perhaps a million men would have died that lived through that struggle.' In January 1944 he moved to take overall command of Allied air power in the Mediterranean. He became Deputy Commanding General of the USAAF in 1945, retiring two years later." - American Air Museum This is an oversized or heavy book, which requires additional postage for international delivery outside the US.

Soft cover. Condition: Very Good +. Dodd, Gilbert Haldane (illustrator). 1st Edition. (Alphabet) FUNNY ABC BOOK (CODE NO. 149) by R. B. N. Everett; illustrated by G. H. Dodd. London: Dean's Rag Book Co., Ltd., between 1912-1916. FIRST EDITION. 4to - 11-1/4" x 8-3/8". Red cloth backed color pictorial limp cloth wrappers sewn at the spine as issued with a small area of light staining to back wrapper for what is a beautiful, bright and fresh copy of the book. [16] butterfly-folded double cloth pages including wrappers; pinking to the head and foot of book. The book is an alphabet/animal book in which each letter of the alphabet, which is presented in three different forms, i.e., large capital printed in one of various bright colors, and both upper and lower case script printed in black, is paired with a color drawing of an animal that starts with that letter, AND, a humorous verse that ties the letter to the animal as well as other items that start with said letter! This is really an elaborate book when compared to the average Dean's Rag Book Co.'s titles; internally the book is incredibly fresh and clean with crisp bright white pages that unfortunately have small areas of damp staining at the upper gutter and upper fore edge corner regions of most pages. The condition of the book is VERY GOOD +. Only one copy located on OCLC/WorldCat (Morgan Library and Museum, Pierpont Morgan Library). RARE; especially so in such nice condition.
