Il fut membre du Conseil des Cinq-Cents et se rallia à Bonaparte. D'après Bertier et Fierro, ces mémoires "oeuvre du teinturier Lamothe-Langon assisté de Guillemard pour la Révolution et de L'Héritier ou de Lardier pour l'époque postérieure", "sont très suspects pour l'historien". L'Ancien Régime occupe l'essentiel du premier volume, la Révolution la fin du premier et le second volume, le Consulat et l'Empire l'essentiel du tome 3 et la Restauration le reste, le récit s'arrêtant en 1816 "à la conspiration de Didier à Grenoble". Les feuillets de titre et de faux-titre du premier tome sont ceux de "Histoire de la Révolution Française" publiée chez Tenon en 1847, mais le texte est bien celui de l'édition originale de 1829, et il s'agit probablement de la tentative de remise en vente sous un nouveau titre d'un stock invendu par l'éditeur Tenon (cette édition de 1847 semble d'ailleurs absente des catalogues de toutes les bibliothèques).
