Kleinere und mittelgroße Low-Cost Airlines sind jedoch meist nicht dazu bereit, die hohen Preise für entsprechende IT-Lösungen zu zahlen, zumal diese nicht auf ihre spezifischen Charakteristika zugeschnitten sind. Sie planen daher häufig mit selbst entwickelten Best-Practice-Ansätzen.In der vorliegenden Dissertation werden die Planung der Flugstrecken (Schedule Design), die Auswahl der Flugzeugtypen (Fleet Assignment) sowie die Konstruktion zulässiger Flugzeugrotationen (Aircraft Maintenance Routing) für kleine und mittelgroße Low-Cost Airlines mit einem Point-to-Point Netzwerk analysiert und optimiert. Im Gegensatz zu der bislang üblichen Praxis erfolgt dieser als Airline Scheduling bezeichnete Planungsprozess simultan. Dabei steht die Modellierung des Passagiernachfrageverhaltens im Fokus. So werden die Nachfrage nach Hin- und korrespondierenden Rückflügen sowie sinkende Grenzerlöse bei einer steigenden Anzahl angebotener Sitzplätze explizit berücksichtigt.Zur Ermittlung exakter Lösungen kleinerer Probleminstanzen erfolgt die Konstruktion von leistungsfähigen, problemspezifischen Branch-and-Price Verfahren. Schnelle, annähernd optimale Lösungen großer Instanzen lassen sich mit Hilfe der entwickelten Heuristiken erzeugen. Anhand umfassender Praxisdaten erfolgt eine detaillierte Verfahrensauswertung. Diese zeigt, dass sich im Vergleich zu bisherigen Optimierungsansätzen insbesondere durch die Berücksichtigung des Passagiernachfrageverhaltens signifikant bessere Lösungen in kürzerer Zeit erzeugen lassen.
