La comtesse de La Fayette (1634-1693) n'est en effet pas que l'auteur de la Princesse de Clèves, roman auquel on a tendance à la réduire : centre de la vie mondaine à Paris depuis au moins 1659, elle comptait de nombreuses personnalités de premier plan parmi ses amis, dont Henriette d'Orléans, le Grand Arnauld, Huet, le cardinal de Retz, La Rochefoucauld, etc.Quérard IV, 390.
