Volume XV111, October 5-1895- Sept. 26th 1896 Maroon cloth boards leather spine and corners, gilt lettering to spine, some cracking at hinges, edgewear, 11.5 x 8.00 inches approx. , fold-out coloured frontispiece of a lion complete but with some edge wear, contents pages i-xii, 824 pages, most pages are very good the first few have been handled more than the others, condition of the book is generally good, tight and readable , there are signs that it has been used and appreciated in its past, no inscriptions , foxing , 11 coloured plates, extensively illustrated in colour and black and white. A great combination of fact and fiction. Heavy book.

Good-plus clean firm interior for the age, inscription to front e/paper, contains a black and white frontispiece plus 7 further plates, small finger mark to lower border otherwise just the occasional light age mark, toned to e/papers and page block, decorated boards have rubs to cloth at extremities but good-plus bright frontage and decent appearance mostly for the age, all tight and firm.

Newbolt points out that the publishers had mis-spelled W. W. Fenn's name as G. M. Fenn. I list the incorrect spelling because it is printed on the book. At least they were consistent. It is wrong on the cover, title page and table of contents. With eight full page illustrations by Boucher. Some minor scattered foxing. Prize award book-plate to the front paste-down. A really lovely copy of this collection of stories in the seemingly scarce green binding. Newbolt, 139.1. Very Good.
