The author covers basic sundial theory, explains how to determine the declination of a wall, and provides step-by-step instructions for creating a variety of sundials, including horizontal, vertical, and reflecting sundials. The author also discusses how to enlarge sundials and how to overcome the challenges of creating sundials on walls that decline to the east or west, providing readers with everything they need to create and install sundials in their own homes. The author's approach to teaching sundial-making is unique in that he provides instructions for working with both the old method of relying on a table of hour lines for each five degrees of latitude, and a new direct method that eliminates reliance on the tables. This direct method is both highly accurate and much easier to apply than the old method, making this book perfect for beginners and experienced sundial makers alike. Riccardi I 456).
