Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 346 pages. Published in 2006. Artist Book. One of the most beautiful Artist Book interpretations of the modern classic ever realized. Limited Edition of one numbered and signed copy. Precedes and should not be confused with the Limited Edition of 1000 copies. Exactly one signed copy only. A brilliant production by Sam Taylor-Wood: Oversize-volume format. Black cloth boards, as issued. Text by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Art by Sam Taylor-Wood. She utilizes one of her most austerely beautiful photographs on glassine paper that serves as the Artist Book's translucent inner DJ. White cardboard box. Printed on archival, acid-free stock paper in the United Kingdom to the highest standards. Which basically means that the book will last 1000 years, or forever if stored properly. In transparent Plexiglas ("Perspex") Box, which serves as the book's outer DJ, as issued. Published in 2006 on the occasion of Penguin Book's 60th Anniversary. "Tender Is The Night: A Romance" was one of five modern classics that the publisher issued in a Limited Edition by commissioning five of the world's most important artists in their respective fields. The other titles were Gustave Flaubert's "Madame Bovary", D. H. Lawrence's "Lady Chatterley's Lover", Fyodor Dostoyevsky's "Crime And Punishment", and "The Idiot" (he was the only novelist to be honored with two masterpieces by the Series). ALL of the titles are now rare. Re-presents, in a dazzling Limited Edition, F. Scott Fitzgerald's "Tender Is The Night: A Romance". Sam Taylor-Wood's photographically-inspired Artist Book realization. The ultimate book-as-object, the literary classic as a work of art, worthy of Penguin's auspicious celebration and meant for posterity. Shows "an elegant young man as he stands before us with his hands in his pocket and bare feet. He perfectly sums up the elegance and fragility of Nicole and Dick Driver's world" (Publisher's blurb). Sam Taylor-Wood is one of the most brilliant artist/photographer/filmmakers of our time. She is especially noted for her unvarnished portraits of ordinary subjects as well as the most well-known celebrities of the day. Many consider her to be the natural successor to Avedon as well as Annie Leibovitz. But that judgment, while flattering, does not quite do justice to the singular qualities of her work. She has since re-married and goes by Sam Taylor-Johnson. An absolute "must-have" title for F. Scott Fitzgerald and Sam Taylor-Wood collectors. This is the Limited Numbered And Signed Edition of one copy. It is indicated as such ("Number 1") on the Front Limitation Page. It is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen by Sam Taylor-Wood. It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page. This title is a great book. This is the only copy available online and despite its imperfection (rubbing on fragile Plexiglas/"Perspex" Box; that's how we got it from Penguin) is otherwise in fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: By special arrangement with Penguin, Sam Taylor-Wood signed only the first copy of the Limited Edition. Should NOT be confused with the Limited Edition of 1000 copies. A rare signed copy thus. One of the greatest novels of all time, re-interpreted by one of the most brilliant artist/photographers of our time. A fine collectible copy. (SEE ALSO F. Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near fine. First edition. An association copy, inscribed by the then Governor of Oklahoma Brad Henry on an official Governor's office bookplate affixed to the front free endpaper: "To Scott Momaday -- With deepest appreciation and admiration. You made the inaugural festivities wonderful. Kim and I look forward to your return to the Gov's Mansion. Brad Henry." Henry served from 2003 to 2011 and is, as of this writing, the last Democratic governor Oklahoma elected. A nice association, as N. Scott Momaday is one of Oklahoma's brightest literary lights. He won the Pulitzer Prize for House of the Rising Dawnin 1969 and was a key figure of the literary Native American Renaissance. He received the National Medal of Arts in 2007. That same year he moved back to Oklahoma for the first time since childhood and Brad Henry named him Oklahoma's Centennial Poet Laureate. Probably this book was a gift on that occasion ("inaugural festivities"). Momaday was also inducted into the Oklahoma Writers Hall of Fame in 2008. This book is a photo essay showcasing some of the state's best natural and historic highlights by Fitzgerald accompanied by an essay by former OK Governor George Nigh. The state's "Indian Territory" and indigenous heritage is featured richly in the mix (the half-title page, for instance, is a detail of a Kiowa cradleboard--Momaday was Kiowa). Fitzgerald's original Oklahoma was published in 1979. Quarto, black leatherette boards, color photos throughout. A fine book in a very near fine jacket with a few small stipples to rear. A standout book for any Oklahoma or landscape photography collection.

Introduction by William Hodapp. Bound in blue cloth with gilt lettering and green pattern stamped on spine. Cloth a touch worn. Inscription reads, "To Jack, too young to have known about all this (so was I, really, thank God) but a guy who I think would get a smile out of some of it - + to remember '51. / Regards, Bill". Inexplicably, among the excerpts are those from Hitler and John Maynard Keynes. The dust jacket illustration by John Held, Jr., is a cartoonish send up the 1920s, a tuxedo-wearing swell holding an oversized cocktail shaker grins broadly while his flapper gal-pal shimmies. First edition of the Library of America compilations of the works fiction of F. Scott Fitzgerald from 1920-1922. Octavo, original publisher's green cloth, pictorial endpapers, silk ribbon bound in. Signed by Jackson R. Bryer on the colophon. Bryer is a Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Maryland and the co-founder and president of the F. Scott Fitzgerald Society. He wrote the chronology and notes for this volume. Fine in a near fine dust jacket. Jacket design by R.D. Scudellari. Author photo courtesy of George Eastman House. F. Scott Fitzgerald: Novels and Stories 1920â"1922 (The Library of America, 2000), edited by Jackson R. Bryer, Professor Emeritus of English at the University of Maryland, is the authoritative gathering of Fitzgerald's early work â" the concentrated burst of fiction that in the space of just two years made him the most celebrated young writer in America and the defining literary voice of the Jazz Age. At the outset of what Fitzgerald himself called "the greatest, the gaudiest spree in history," these four volumes collectively offer the fullest literary expression of one of the most fascinating eras in American life, mastering a glittering aphoristic prose and keen social observation that would distinguish all his subsequent writing while sounding, beneath the era's wild cacophony, a plaintive strain of lament for the wasted potential of youth. This Side of Paradise (1920), offering in its Princeton chapters the most enduring portrait of college life in American literature, gave Fitzgerald the early success that defined and haunted him for the rest of his career; Flappers and Philosophers (1920) gathers accomplished short stories including "Bernice Bobs Her Hair" and "The Ice Palace"; The Beautiful and Damned (1922) traces the excruciating dissipation of the self-styled aristocrat Anthony Patch and his beautiful wife Gloria; and Tales of the Jazz Age (1922) contains the novella "May Day" and the celebrated fable "A Diamond as Big as the Ritz.".
