Hardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. "An Historical Sketch of the Art of Sculpture in Wood" From the Earliest Period to the Present Time by Robert Folkestone Williams. 1835 1st edition; The Library of the Fine Arts; London. "With Notices of the Most Remarkable Sculptural Works in the Same Material Now Remaining in Europe, and Some Account of Their Designers." From the Preface: "The Art of Sculpture in Wood, though of great interest, has not received that attention it deserves; and the want of some account of its history has been frequently acknowledged by those who have felt any gratification in the study of the arts of design. The following pages have been written as a popular compendium of the most interesting information that can be acquired upon the subject; the Author having in preparation a more elaborate work for those who are desirous of a complete book of reference, in which ever thing relating to Timber Architecture and Sculpture in Wood will be lucidly arranged, and philosophically treated; and it has been his object, during the composition of this volume, to render it sufficiently learned for the general reader, while to the practical student it may serve as a preliminary dissertation to the work to which he has alluded." Condition: Light foxing and a couple small stains on the front cover; there is a larger stain at the bottom half of the back cover. Light wear to the cover corners. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Foxing to the pages throughout. Overall the book is in Good+ condition.
