Fonseca Henriquez corrigió y cambió buena parte del trabajo original, agregando sus observaciones y anotaciones. Fonseca Henriques (1665,1731) o el Doctor Mirandella, como él mismo se denominaba, estudió medicina en la Universidad de Coimbra y ejerció durante largo tiempo en Lisboa, en donde mantuvo una cuantiosa clientela de la alta sociedad, lo que lo llevó a ser considerado el más erudito y prestigioso médico de su época. Al final de la obra encontramos un índice en donde Henríquez indica la utilización del vino para curar la sífilis: Vinho Sant e suas virtudes; Vinho e nocivo aos gallicados; Vinhos mostos medicados para curar gallico; Vino magistral para curar o morbo gallico. O texto, composto em caracteres redondos e alguns itálicos, está ornamentado com belas xilogravuras com motivos vegetalistas, antropomórficos e tipográficos, destacando-se as iniciais decoradas e os cabeções com as armas do reino a encimar a dedicatória e a primeira página numerada da obra, assim como florões de remate de grandes dimensões, que ocupam quase metade das páginas 352 e 366, que correspondem ao final da obra e do índice, respectivamente. Exemplar com o miolo um pouco desencaixado da encadernação, que apresenta pequenas falhas de pele nos cantos das pastas e na lombada, e perda de cor no carminado das folhas. Assinatura de posse coeva a tinta na folha de rosto e extensas anotações coevas nas folhas de guarda, na última página numerada e no verso da pasta posterior. Tem ocasionais manchas de humidade e ligeiras falhas de papel na margem das folhas de guarda e na última folha numerada. Pequenos picos de traça nas margens e junto ao festo das folhas, sem nunca afetar a mancha gráfica. Quarta edição muito rara. A Biblioteca Nacional apenas regista dois exemplares em acervo, ambos em mau estado de conservação. A obra foi publicada pela primeira vez em Lisboa, 1642 e compunha-se de duas partes, impressas por Lourenço de Anvers e Antonio Alvarez, respectivamente. A primeira parte teve uma segunda edição em 1674 por António Rodrigues de Abreu, Lisboa, que não é registada pelo Inocêncio. Em 1683 Craesbeeck edita num único volume ambas as partes. Esta edição, que se restringe apenas à primeira parte da obra, é especialmente importante por ser a primeira a conter os acrescentos e anotações de Francisco da Fonseca Henriques, assim como uma dissertação de sua autoria, que mudaram em grande parte a substância da doutrina de Madeira Arrais, corrigindo e alterando métodos que o tempo revelou ineficazes. Fonseca Henriques alerta no prólogo que o texto original é mantido e apenas acrescentado com anotações no final dos números e com alguns capítulos adicionais. Frisa que o seu objectivo é corrigir os erros, sem ofensa do seu autor. Voltou a ser editada em 1751, na Oficina de Domingos Gonçalves. Obra pioneira e muito importante para o estudo da história da medicina em Portugal, em particular para a história do combate à Sífilis, ou «Morbo Gálico», temida doença sexualmente transmissível. Foi a primeira obra escrita por um português sobre a doença e tornou-se um livro de referência sobre o assunto durante mais de um século, como atestam as várias reedições. Primeiras páginas com dedicatória do editor literário e ampliador Francisco da Fonseca Henriques ao rei Dom João V, prólogo do mesmo, carta laudatória de Pascoal Ribeiro Coutinho também a Fonseca Henriques, lista alfabética de autores referidos ao longo da obra, índice de capítulos, erratas, licenças de Frei António das Chagas, João Curvo Semedo, entre outros.
