Sheet Music First Edition
Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Vintage illustrated sheet music issued to coincide with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's lavish Technicolor musical Balalaika, starring Nelson Eddy and Ilona Massey. The striking photographic cover reproduces the film's stars in costume, making this both a piece of popular music and an attractive example of Hollywood Golden Age movie ephemera. The story behind this song spans both Europe and Hollywood. Composer George Posford and lyricist Eric Maschwitz originally created At the Balalaika for the successful 1936 London stage musical Balalaika. When MGM adapted the production into the 1939 film, legendary studio music director and Academy Award-winning composer Herbert Stothart prepared the musical adaptation, while Broadway lyricists Bob Wright and Chet Forrest supplied revised English lyrics for American audiences. The resulting publication captures an interesting cultural journey - from London's West End to one of MGM's prestige musical productions during the studio system's golden era. Nelson Eddy, already America's premier operatic baritone on film, and Hungarian-born soprano Ilona Massey helped popularize the song for moviegoers, making this edition especially desirable for collectors of classic Hollywood memorabilia. This example remains in Very Good condition. The illustrated front cover displays well with bright color and strong eye appeal despite moderate edge wear, rubbing, light creasing, and age toning consistent with use. The principal flaw is a clean separation of the cover along the spine fold, a common condition issue with heavily handled sheet music of this period; the cover is complete and present. Interior pages remain clean and fully legible with no writing or performance markings observed. The rear cover retains Leo Feist's contemporary advertising for additional song folios, providing a useful snapshot of the publisher's catalog during the late 1930s.

Robert Forrest is the author of the six-volume series of books, Velikovsky's Sources (1981), privately published by the author, and also published as a single abridged book, A Guide to Velikovsky's Sources. He attended Brasenose College, Oxford, and teaches mathematics at a college of further education, near Manchester, UK. . He noted "If people disagree with my findings and chose to continue to believe in Velikovsky, then my attitude was, "Fine that's your choice, but to my mind you are sailing in the face of plain common sense, and you are in the same boat as people who continue to believe that Bacon wrote Shakespeare, despite all reasonable refutation." In brief, I have continued to hold the view that Worlds in Collision is a crank book." . Immanuel Velikovsky was a Russian-American psychoanalyst, writer, and catastrophist. He was the author of several books offering pseudohistorical interpretations of ancient history, including the U.S. bestseller Worlds in Collision (1950)]. Velikovsky's work is frequently cited as a canonical example of pseudoscience and has been cited as an example of the demarcation problem. . His books use comparative mythology and ancient literary sources (including the Old Testament) to argue that Earth suffered catastrophic close contacts with other planets (principally Venus and Mars) in ancient history.

The Great Basin is a mosaic of geographic contrasts: steep rugged mountains, harsh dry salty lakebeds, and sweeping valleys, and while the high desert and mountains of Nevada may appear desolate, but those who choose to look and linger will find Nevada ruggedly beautiful and home to mineralogical treasures. Bonanza deposits of silver attracted mid-nineteenth century miners to the Nevada desert. Then, as the rich Comstock Lode played out, deposits yielding copper, antimony, mercury, and undreamed of quantities of gold were brought online. Today the "Silver State" is by far the largest domestic producer of gold. And not just of the disseminated variety; visible, collectible gold has been found and is waiting to be discovered all around the state. From silver, barite, orpiment, opal, gold, turquoise, and stibnite to a host of rare species, mineral specimens and lapidary materials from Nevada are sought by collectors the world over. And Lithographie's monograph "Nevada - Jackpot!" celebrates them in all their glory. Nevada mining and mineral experts share their insights into the state's mining history, geology, localities, and specimens. Their texts are brilliantly illuminated with images by photographic talents both local and international. Complete with a one-of-a-kind 16-by-18-inch, indexed map of the state's localities, "Nevada" is simply a must for the libraries of mineral collectors and connoisseurs alike. Remarkably uncommon, an unflinchingly honest memoir by musician and recovering drug addict Bob Forrest. As a musician he is best known for his Los Angeles bands Thelonious Monster and The Bicycle Thief. He started out as a teenage drunkard from the SoCal suburbs and went on to become a member of the Hollywood hip crown that included the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Depp, and River Phoenix. As Forrest's fame grew worldwide, he descended deeper into his chemical dependency. He went to rehab a number of times but that never stuck and his once-promising music career slipped away. He eventually defeated he addiction and once he did he devoted himself to helping other seemingly hopeless cases as a certified drug counselor.
