The model presented in this book is based on simplified solutions of the complete equations governing atmospheric flow, with the advection terms being neglected. This simplification allowed for the development of a diagnostic model that requires less data than traditional approaches, making it a valuable tool for land managers and others facing problems requiring quantitative estimates of airflow patterns in complex terrain. The book includes a thorough evaluation of the model, using data from seven case studies to validate the wind field estimates. The results demonstrate that the model can be used as an aid in fire and air-quality programs due to its low data requirements and reduced computer effort. The insights provided by this book can greatly aid professionals in these fields in making informed decisions regarding land use planning and pollution prevention.
