The author, a respected scientist, delves into the complexities of Metazoa, animals composed of multitudes of specialized cells, tracing their evolution and categorizing them into two fundamental divisions. The first section explores the Enterocoela, characterized by a single body cavity. The second part focuses on the Coelomocoela, which possess an additional internal cavity called the coelom. The author discusses the significance of this distinction, as well as the evolution and composition of various organ systems in each group, including circulatory, excretory, muscular, and sensory systems. Throughout the book, the author emphasizes the historical and theoretical underpinnings of zoological classification, providing a detailed examination of the concepts and theories that have shaped our understanding of the animal kingdom. By examining the diversity of life through the prism of comparative anatomy, this book offers a fresh perspective on the intricacies of animal evolution and the interconnectedness of all living organisms. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Wind captures legendary players, including C. B. Macdonald, Bobby Jones, Byron Nelson, Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Ben Hogan, and Jack Nicklaus, in all their glory, and expertly analyzes the developments in style, equipment, and technique that created the modern game." ; "Originally released in 1948 and revised in 1956 and 1975, Wind's work is the most graceful and thorough history ever published of professional and amateur men's and women's golf in America. From John Reid, the man who introduced the game to this country with three holes carved out of a cow pasture on his New York estate in 1888, to Francis Ouimet's memorable victory in the 1913 U.S. Open, to Bobby Jones' "impregnable quadrilateral" in 1930, to the dawn of the era of Sam Snead, Byron Nelson, and Ben Hogan, Wind covers it all: the personalities, the competition, even swing analyses. This volume introduces the game's first star players, including Bobby Jones, Glenna Collett, Gene Sarazen, and Walter Hagen." ; "Encyclopedic in scope and intimate in detail, The Story of American Golf is both a fitting tribute to the beautiful and fickle game that inspired a national obsession and a testament to Herbert Warren Wind's incomparable talents as a journalist and historian. ; Contents: Sowing the seeds, 1883-1913 -- The apple tree gang -- Before and after St. Andrew's -- C. Notable among these are twelve warmly inscribed titles by humorist S.J. Perelman, whose acerbic wit is on display in a series of affectionate, playful, and sometimes satirical inscriptions to both Nash and his wife, Frances. These volumes also reflect Perelman and Nash's shared experiences in Hollywood and the literary scene of mid-century America. Other highlights include inscriptions from John Betjeman, Christopher Morley, E.C. Bentley, A.P. Herbert, David McCord, William Plumer Fowler, and Holger Lundbergh, among otherseach evidencing Nash's influence and the esteem in which he was held across literary and cultural circles in the U.S. and the U.K. O.

1st Edition. FIRST EDITION IN ORIGINAL PRINTED WRAPS OF A REPORT ON NUCLEAR POWER PLANT ACCIDENTS PREPARED BY A STUDY GROUP OF THE AMERICAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY UNDER CONTRACT WITH THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION. The Reviews of Modern Physics published this issue, a special one hundred-fifty page supplement, to present the results of the study. Note that the attached images show the full content pages in more detail. "The American Physical Society (APS) formed a study group on radionuclide release from severe accidents at nuclear power plants to "review the adequacy of the technical base upon which the phenomenological models for radionuclide release from postulated severe reactor accidents are constructed, the adequacy of the models themselves, and the correct use of the complex computer codes that incorporate these models in the analyses of accident sequences. The impetus to the existing research came from the observation that much less radioactive iodine was released during the Three Mile Island accident than had been expected in an accident of that magnitude. It is of obvious interest to inquire how general that observation is" ("Report to the APS, RMP, 57, 3, July, 1985, S3). CONDITION & DETAILS: Lancaster: American Physical Society.
