He does not 'exactly understand the import' of the recipient's question, never having 'heard that the Port of Teignmouth was in the Duchy of Lancaster'. Nevertheless he will enquire whether 'the King in right of that Duchy has any jurisdiction or possessions in that place & what, if any, they are'.4.

Three pages, 8vo, bifolium, small closed tear, remnants of tipping in,mainly good condition. He has received a letter and petition from his correspondent. He explains his confinement to home through gout, and also the procedure by which the petition would be presented ("as the petition of yourself & the trustees") to the House of Lords (technicality). In a postscript he minimises the significance of this technicality, "but on the bare statement it must appear to the house that the [?] fo the congregation are favorable to the relief of Roman Catholics from all [covert?] disabilities." Note: The Catholic Relief Act passed in 1829.
