Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. 321-346 pages with maps, figures, charts, tables and cited references. Quarto (11" x 8 1/4") bound in original publisher's wrappers. Current Anthropology Volume 22, Number 4 complete issue. First edition. Postclassic. Here linguistically diverse peoples (e.g., Rabinal, Pokom, Akahal…, Xinca) shared a pattern in material culture. With the frontier commencing along the borders of the Quinche and Cakchiquel conquest states, it is theorized that a principal variable in the development of the frontier cultural pattern was militaristic expansionism. Ethnohistory chronicles that the Quiche and Chakchiquel displaced Pokom and Akahal peoples, who in turn displaced others. Migrations into these borderlands from the Epiclassic onward had established a frontier cultural base that was reformulated under the pressures generated by Late Postclassic expansions. Adaptation to militaristic pressures is suggested by sites demonstrating linear regression in various indexes of political centralization/militarization. Proximity to conquest states is more signifant than ethnicity in predicting the values of these indexes. Additional variables, such as trade and population growth/local ecology, are assessed for their contribution to the formation of a distinctive frontier pattern. Condition: Light edge wear, corners gently bumped and rubbed else very good.

Not x-library, unclipped (no price), & unmarked. Secure ship w/track #. John Fox Jr. published this great romantic novel of the Cumberland Mountains of Kentucky and Virginia… in 1908, and the book quickly became one of America's favorites. It has all the elements of a good romance-a superior but natural heroine, a hero who is an agent of progress and enlightenment, a group of supposedly benighted mountaineers to be drawn into the flow of mainstream American culture, a generous dose of social and class struggle, and a setting among the misty coves and cliffs of the blue Cumberlands. Reprinted with a foreword by John Ed Pearce, The Trail of the Lonesome Pine has all the excitement and poignance that caught and held readers' interest when the book first appeared. Source: Publisher The Trail of the Lonesome Pine is a 1908 romance novel/western novel written by John Fox, Jr. The novel became Fox's most successful, and was included among the top ten list of bestselling novels for 1908 and 1909. It has been adapted numerous times for both stage and screen. Wikipedia.

The hopes and desires cherished by him are elucidated in a way that enthralls the reader. Life goes on and along the way it offers beauty and glory. This charming tale encapsulates the struggles and successes in a skilful manner. Captivating! Source: Publisher A Cumberland Vendetta: N/A The Last Stetson is a classic western. According to Wikipedia: "Born in Stony Point, Kentucky to John William Fox, Sr., and Minerva Worth Carr, Fox studied English at Harvard University. He graduated in 1883 before becoming a reporter in New York City. After working for both New York Times and the New York Sun, he published a successful serialization of his first novel, A Mountain Europa, in Century magazine in 1892. Two moderately successful short story collections followed, as well as his first conventional novel, The Kentuckians in 1898. Fox gained a following as a war correspondent, working for Harper's Weekly in Cuba during the Spanish-American War of 1898, where he served with the "Rough Riders." Six years later he traveled to Asia to report on the Russo-Japanese War for Scribner's magazine. Source: Publisher. F. C. Yohn and Louis Loeb (illustrator).
