Cin: Cranston & Stowe, 1891, 1st. edition, 324 pp., ads (4 pp). *** Written by a clergyman with an inquisitive mind for ancient history, this book contains descriptions of various pagan religions of Mesopotamia and the Eastern Rim of the Mediterranean from earliest times up to the founding of what is now known as Judaism. Some chapters include The Black Art; The Beginnings of Things; My Lord Baal; Two Great Circles of Gods; etc. With twenty-six (26) engraved text illustrations. *** The book comes with a clear mylar protective cover. The gilt on the spine is very, very faint, and there is a color blemish from an absent, old private library label. The contents are clean and complete in a good binding. An interesting armorial bookplate is affixed to the front end paper, and owner's name is written on the front free end paper (Prof. J. A. Sadony, Valley of the Pines, Montague, Mich). *** 7.75 inches tall by 5.25 inches.
