Hardcover. 77p., frontis-portrait tipped-in, previous owner's name on pastedown endpaper, author's note, preface, colophon stated Lyrics of a Lad printed in an edition of 1000 copies by the Ralph Fletcher Seymour Company, Chicago, November MCMXIV, shelfworn edges, bound in tan boards with brown cloth spine, gilt titles, untrimmed edges. [NB: we have seen variant copies with a larger cloth backing and the front panel gilt in full. Only the titles are gilt on this copy]. Iris was an Italian immigrant who was dedicated to the plan to become America's foremost poet. He notoriously used a pseudonym, Vincent Holme, to write letters praising his works to publishers. This was his first book.

Loosely inserted booklet Aphra Behn Secret Agent with rusty marks from removed staples offset to upper hinge. Beautifully bound in very good bright gilt lettered ruled and illustrated blue cloth over coloured marbled boards. Housed and protected in original unclipped pictorial matt brown dustwrapper featuring characters as Grecian caryatids. The first woman in England to earn her living as a professional writer, Aphra Behn was a playwright, poet, novelist and spy, many of whose works were openly erotic, as frank as that of her friends Wycherley and Rochester.
