Georges-Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon (1707 1788) was a French naturalist, mathematician, and cosmologist. He held the position of director at the Jardin du Roi, now called the Jardin des Plantes. Buffon's works influenced the next two generations of naturalists, including two prominent French scientists Jean-Baptiste Lamarck and Georges Cuvier. Buffon published thirty-six quarto volumes of his Histoire Naturelle during his lifetime, with additional volumes based on his notes and further research being published in the two decades following his death. Ernst Mayr wrote that "Truly, Buffon was the father of all thought in natural history in the second half of the 18th century". Credited with being one of the first naturalists to recognize ecological succession, he was forced by the theology committee at the University of Paris to recant his theories about geological history and animal evolution because they contradicted the biblical narrative of creation.

Esto es tan cierto que, aunque ligados al corporativismo de asociación, la mayoría de los representantes del catolicismo social prefirió emplear la expresión más neutra de organización profesional, la cual no implica un sistema concreto. Los autores del libro demuestran todo lo contrario. Antiguo colaborador directo de Giorgio Almirante, el líder del MSI en los años 1970-1980, y cofundador del Instituto de estudios corporativistas en Roma, Massimo Magliaro opone con facilidad la ideología (sistema de pensamiento cerrado y utópico) a la doctrina (sistema abierto de valores encarnados en una comunidad de sentido). Así, considera el corporativismo como una doctrina bimilenaria cuyos orígenes se remontan a los colegios (de oficios) de la Roma republicana de la antigüedad. Gabriele Adinolfi nos recuerda, a propósito del corporativismo, que la propaganda de izquierda siempre lo ha utilizado para señalar el egoísmo de categoría que haría imposible la lucha colectiva. Insiste, en particular, en la experiencia corporativista del Ventennio mussoliniano. Explica que, en el momento álgido de la gran crisis de 1929, la Italia fascista se benefició siendo la economía del mundo que tuvo menos catástrofes derivadas de esta crisis y que más protegió a los grupos sociales más débiles. Se comprende mejor así por qué el ejemplo italiano interesó tanto a los economistas menos conformistas. ¿El corporativismo deriva de la célebre tercera vía? Por supuesto, estima Bernard Plouvier. Incluso inscribe el corporativismo tercerista en la corriente más genérica del populismo.
