Spine is badly toned and slightly cocked; rubbing and toning to edges with fraying to head and tail of spine and corners. No dust jacket. A few pages signatures have started to crack, but binding is still fairly tight with no loose pages. Interior is clean except for light toning. Previous owner's name and address stamped on first free endpaper. Includes three black and white plates with illustrations by Joe De Yong. This first-person novel is based on the true story of Elijah Mounts, a young man who sought his fortune in the fur trade by working as a trapper in Montana. Frank Bird Linderman (1869-1938) was a Montana writer, politician, and advocate for Native Americans who spent about six years working as a trapper around Flathead Lake.
