Unpaged - 12 pages including covers. Staple-bound paperback brochure: H 21.5cm x L 16.25cm. Tan paper covers toned and lightly soiled with those qualities minimally affecting interior pages as well. Very modest publication with brief text and listing the 69 objects from Mali, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo-Brazzaville, Congo-Kinshasa, Angola, and Rhodesia [Zimbabwe]. Illustrated with thirty-one b/w photos of the exhibited objects albeit with twenty-nine being small insets that reveal little detail, the other two being larger images on the front and rear covers. Published as the accompanying catalog for a 1967 exhibition held at the Museum of African Art which was located in a townhouse once owned by African American abolitionist Frederick Douglass (1817/18-1895) in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington, DC. The museum was absorbed into the Smithsonian Institution in August 1979 and, in 1981, was renamed the National Museum of African Art and received it own building on the National Mall in 1987. African art scholarship in the United States was still a relatively nascent field in 1967 as this was prior to the publication of renowned professor Roy Sieber (1923-2001) primary monographs and before his 1983 ascent to Associate Director for Collections and Research at the National Museum of African Art.
