DUST JACKET: Repaired; Lightly Creased; Lightly Chipped; Light Moisture Damage (Staining); Moderate Yellowing Due to Age; In Archival Quality Jacket Cover. SYNOPSIS: Rex Frost, known everywhere for his radio broadcasts, here gathers together a selection from his talks, and groups them around topics, some of which serve as pegs through all his series of discussions on the air. The chapter headings are, in a very real sense, the cores of his thinking, for each concerns some aspect of Canadian life: I. Some National Groups (Norwegians, Hollanders, Ukrainians, Danes, and Greeks); II. Industries (Handicrafts, Fur Trade, Lumbering and Related Industries, Automotive Industry, Radio Developments, and Shipping); III. Some Problems (Mental Hygiene, Fire Losses, Traffic Accidents, Immigration, Emigration, and Youth Problems); IV. Some Special Areas (Alberta, Manitoba, The Yukon and Northwest Territories). Author and publisher hope that this will be the first of a series of books under the title The Passing Show. Every so often they plan to gather together some of the broadcasts of more permanent interest, and offer them in this form. Taken together they will comprise a growing reference library on contemporary matters of general concern to Canadians, and to all those interested in the emergence of Canada as a nation. The material found here has been gathered together after a vast amount of digging and sifting, and is not readily available elsewhere, certainly not in so useful and accessible a form. For that reason public libraries and school libraries will find the series most useful. Rex Frost was born in the heart of the British Commonwealth. Between studies in London and Cambridge, he spent considerable time travelling the Continent of Europe. After graduation, he worked in a London bank as a junior at $1.25 a week. Came to Canada just in time to turn back and serve with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in the first world war. His voice was first heard on the Canadian airways over a Toronto station in 1927. Since that time he has become one of Ontario's best known news analysts and commentators on Canadian and foreign affairs. Rex Frost made fifteen crossings of the Atlantic during the period between the two wars. He has travelled extensively from coast to coast in Canada and the United States securing information for radio broadcast. He has contributed articles to Saturday Night and numerous other Canadian publications. His hobby is photography. His prints have been exhibited in every major Canadian city from coast to coast, and have won honour awards also in the United States. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
