Anthony Rossiter RWA MSIAD was a British landscape painter who was educated at Eton and studied painting at Chelsea Art School from 1947-51. He was a romantic visionary, a "poet" whose particular heaven was the Mendip Hills in Somerset. Gnarled hedgerows, tumbling stone walls, broken gates, reflections in water and ploughed fields were all his subject matter. His works also included portraits, most notably that of W.H.Auden. Kathleen 'Kay' Johnston Morrison (1898-1989) was secretary-manager to the poet Robert Frost from 1938 until Frost's death in 1963. Book is very good with bright boards. Contents good. In 1962 Rossiter made his first trip to the USA after winning an Arts Council Bursary. He had been invited to stay with the poet Robert Frost in New Hampshire and they became friends. On his return from the USA, Rossiter began work on The Pendulum, which was published by Gollancz in 1966. No date on the title page. Copyright page dated 1962 (and a lot of earlier dates, as well). Colophon states The Spiral Press. March, 1962. There is a 1993 newspaper clipping tucked inside the back cover that has left a rectangular ghost on the endpapers. This copy has a limited edition page at the front, numbered 1282 and signed by Robert Frost in his distinctive fountain-pen autograph. Excellent condition inside and out. I believe this was originally issued with a slipcase, but that is not present here. Please email with questions or to request photos.
