Paperback octavo, very good condition, colour & black & white photos, minimal edgewear. 388 pp. The Queensland author and her husband set sail on a voyage around the world that took two years to complete. She suffered from sea sickness, was terrified of storms and had limited sailing experience. They made the trip in their home-built yacht. This 30,000-nautical-mile voyage was about achieving their dream. They gained a lot from their travels and gave a lot to the people they met on the journey. This is a story of overcoming a massive challenge and leaving a small part of themselves in every one of the 30 countries they visited in their swift yet tough yacht Valiam.

D. Heyse (illustrator). Map. Color lithograph. 13 1/4 x 10 3/4 inches. Folds as issued with small repair to left margin, otherwise in good condition. Charming 19th c map centered on the Caribbean circa 1500. The map is based on the first Western depiction of the new world by Juan de la Cosa. The Cosa map ended up in a junk shop in Paris and was identified as important by Alexander van Humboldt in 1832. From the rare Nieuwe hand atlas der aarde 25 kaarten, (New Hand Atlas of the Earth in 25 Maps).
