Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: No Jacket as Published. 1st Edition. A truly remarkable copy of the first impression, limited numbered edition which is signed to the Limited page by both the author and Aleister Crowley. This being No. 22 of "One Hundred copies printed on handmade paper, specially bound and embellished with portraits and autographs." The front fly leaf is inscribed in the author's hand in ink pen and reads: "To my Mother with every best wish for a very happy 22nd July. I give this 22nd copy of my first work, Fritz. 22 July 1907." (Fritz being JFC Fuller nickname, presumably up until closer to WWI. "Boney" Fuller came later.) In light pencil underneath this inscription are the notes of AWF Fuller, JFC's brother, which reads: "AWF Fuller from Mother, who was born on 22 July 1848" Having been acquired direct from descendants of the author, the condition of this unique copy of the book is, very nearly, as new having evidently been stored away for much of its life. The light covered cloth boards are remarkably well preserved, as is the gilt detailing and title lettering. There is just a hint of tanning to the spine and a small dink at the very head of the spine, but you really do have to look hard for any slight flaws. Internally the pages are lovely and clean albeit a little toned to the heavier stock end papers. The fore edge and bottom page block edges are untrimmed, as called for, and the top edge in gilt. Fuller went on to be famous as a military leader and writer in the science of war. He championed mechanized warfare, when many in the British army doubted it. He is included in Mark Urban's book, "Generals: Ten British Commanders Who Shaped the World" Some accolade indeed. It is this first work though which is most prized by collectors. NB.there is an incentive price for the whole collection, of over 40 books, of £30,000. Included would be this book plus all other signed and inscribed volumes, together with many association copies. Pls contact to discuss. Signed by Author(s).

Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 2nd Edition. Having been acquired direct from descendants of the author, the condition of this unique copy of the book is remarkable. It is the second edition, as stated on the reverse of the half title page. Inscribed in pencil on the front fly leaf are the notes of AWF Fuller, JFC's brother, which reads: "AWF Fuller 25 June, 1934 2nd edition, see back of 1/2 title" Underneath the quotation on the title page is written "2nd Edition" in light pencil and in the hand of AWF Fuller again. Laid in is a letter from a bookseller by the name of David Low, of Cecil Court, Charing Cross Raod, London WC2, on his headed note paper to the author, Captain Fuller, which asks as to how he could get hold of a copy of the special, deluxe signed edition (1st edition) and whether or not that edition was more complete. So it would seem that even in the 1930s, when the letter was written, the first edition was very scarce. The condition of this copy is very close to fine. On the whole it is clean and bright, albeit there is a little fading at the top and spine edge and the spine itself looks a different shade of red due to the sunning effect. The white title lettering and decorative detailing looks nice and crisp. The pages are clean throughout, although a tad toned and mildly foxed to the end papers. The tissue guarding of the frontispiece is more heavily foxed, as is often the case on this different paper stock. The page block edges too look somewhat toned. The bottom and fore edge page block edges are untrimmed, as should be the case. JFC Fuller went on to be famous as a military leader and writer in the science of war. He championed mechanized warfare, when many in the British army doubted it. He is included in Mark Urban's book, "Generals: Ten British Commanders Who Shaped the World" Some accolade indeed. It is this first work though which is most prized by collectors and this 2nd edition is also very scarce. This being a unique association copy. NB.there is an incentive price for the whole collection, of over 40 books, of £30,000. Included would be this book plus all other signed and inscribed volumes, together with many association copies. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Fourth edition. 327pp. Duodecimo [19 cm] 1/4 parchment vellum with blue cloth over boards. Title page printed in red and black. Covers bright and fresh. Subtle foxing and toning to the endpapers and endleaves. A very attractive copy. In a homemade plain paper dust wrapper which has served to protect the book very well. Major-General John Frederick Charles Fuller (1878-1966) was a British army officer and military historian who became one of the founders of modern armored warfare. Fuller met Aleister Crowley after winning a contest that the latter had sponsored for someone to write a critical summary of the Crowley's literary output to that date. The result was Fuller's "The Star in the West," a volume which highly praised Crowley's mystical perception.
