" Funcks 'Chronologia' und das zugehörige 'Commentarium' gehört zu den am häufigsten zitierten historisch-chronologischen Tabellenwerken des 16. Jahrhunderts. " Sich in der Tradition der Ordnung der frühen Drucke der Eusebius-Chronik befindend, geht Funck v.a. durch die Einbindung chronologischer Erkenntnisse der neuen Astronomie Nicolaus Copernicus' neue Wege. Copernicus war Funck über seinen Freund Osiander bekannt, der 1543 dessen Hauptschrift "De revolutionibus orbium coelestium, libri IV" in Nürnberg herausbrachte. Eine erste Fassung erschien 1545 in Nürnberg, nach Kenntnisnahme von 'De revolutionibus' von Kopernikus, das kurz zuvor erschien, arbeitete Funck das Werk komplett um. Diese Neubearbeitung erschein erstmals 1552 in Königsberg. Hier vorliegend die zweite, laut Titel bis zum Jahr 1553 (tatsächlich im Tabellenteil bis 1554) erweiterte Ausgabe. Am Schluß des Kommentarbandes schildert Funcke noch (unabhängig vom Hauptwerk) als Beteiligter die Schlacht bei Mühlberg und die Gefangennehmung Johann Friedrichs im Schmalkadischen Krieg. Auf Grund seiner theologischen Überzeugungen und Verstrickungen wurde Funcke,der eng mit Osiander befreundet war und dessen Lehren folgte, 1566 nach langer Tortur hingerichtet. - unser Exemplar enthält am Anfang die wohl aus Zensurgründen in anderen Exemplaren weggelassenen 8 Bll mit Widmung an Albrecht, Herzog von Preussen, Vorrede und Verzeichnis der benutzten Autoren, dann mit weiterem, gegenüber dem ersten abweichenden Titelblatt zum ersten Teil das Hauptwerk in 2 Teilen. Titelblatt zum 2. (= Kommentar)-Teil auf der leeren verso-Seite mit altem lat.
