Ein evolutionarer Ansatz ist inzwischen obligatorisch in der Okologie und in der Verhaltensforschung; Palaontologie und Systematik sind starker geworden und haben begonnen, ihre Bande zur Populationsbiologie zu erforschen; evolutionare Mor phologie, Physiologie und Entwicklungsbiologie erleben eine Renaissance; das Gebiet der Molekularevolution ist den Kinderschuhen entwachsen; der jahrliche Umfang an Informationen und Theorien uber alte und neue Themen hat enorm zugenommen, und in der Folge sind neue Fachzeitschriften entstanden, um diesem Bedurfnis gerecht zu werden. Fand ich es damals uberheblich, ein Lehrbuch uber Evolutionsbiologie vorzulegen, so hat sich dieses Gefuhl nicht verandert, eher noch verstarkt. Ohne die Geduld von Kollegen, die ich bei meiner Informationsbeschaffung schamlos belastigt habe, hatte ich die Flut von Informationen und Ideen vermutlich kaum bewaltigen konnen.
