Hard Covers. Condition: NF. Dust Jacket Condition: NF. Photographs Few Document Reproductions Etc (illustrator). new edition. After it was first published in 1985 "New Zealand Potterty" quickly became established as the most comprehensive and authoratative reference on the development of pottery and ceramics in NZ. It was embraced not only by those with an historical or industrial interest, but also by collectors, antique dealers and academics. Such was the impact of the book that it became a collectors item. This led to demand for a reprint and this the new edition of 1999 resulted. In it attention was given to updating information on factories that were operating when the first edition was printed. On this topic the author wrote in the new edition introduction that ". the most nostalgic aspect of this work was recounting the final years of our largest factory, Auckland's Crown Lynn Potteries, through to the final shutdown of its machines in 1989." Appropriately, Sir Tom Clark, of Crown Lynn, produced the introduction for the new edition, as he had for the first. In it he said the book was a timely and fitting salute to all the New Zealanders who had worked, or still worked, in the pottery industry. While the new edition contained much revised and additional research material, illustrations were also a vital consideration, with many new images being professionally "shot" so that the.quality of images not only complimented the shape and decoration of the wares, to also be a "design statement." The number of photographs in the new edition "is alsmost double that of the past" The new edition, like its predecessor, was much acclaimed and has become a collectors item, proving especially valuable to collectors of NZ pottery and ceramics. New edition published 1999 by Reed, 270 pages including two appendices, end-notes, glossary, bibliography and index, lavishly illustrated with colour and b/w photos, few document reproductions etc, at back is a 25 page Checklisf on NZ Pottery Marks (up to a dozen marks on each page), buff coloured end-papers. Blue hard covers with gilt spine titles are NF, also internally NF. This copy has ink signature of the author on title page. Colour pictorial DJ is NF, with Temuka Potteries wall vase on front panel, with Crown Lynn's famous railway cup, Tititan Studio All Black Don Clake commerative mug and trio hand-thrown wares from P Hutson and Co on rear panel. This large and heavy book, unpacked weight 1.4kg, would require additional postage, paticularly for international delivery. By Author.
