Il complesso edilizio di Santa Lucia a Ligliano, oggi conosciuto come 'Villa Licia', vanta un'origine molto antica (già nel 1014 si trovano memorie riconducibili a quest'area). Nel corso dei secoli il borgo ha subito numerose trasformazioni, fino a quando l'attuale proprietario, che ha acquistato il complesso nel 2000, ha avviato un insieme di sistematiche opere, tra le quali il totale riassetto dei giardini, oggetto di questa pubblicazione. Gli architetti hanno steso un progetto grandioso che rispondeva a istanze di rinnovamento e ingentilimento ma si confrontava con la realtà storica dei luoghi. Sfruttando la naturale conformazione del terreno, hanno creato un arioso parterre scandito in aiuole contornate da basse siepi di bosso e caratterizzato da una precisa simmetria (la regola fondamentale di tutto il progetto). L'acqua, la pietra e il marmo sono i materiali scelti per disegnare con carattere classico e armonioso i contorni delle aiuole e per arredare gli spazi, facendo risaltare la luce naturale che nelle ore diurne disegna ombre e contrasti che variano la cromaticità degli elementi costruttivi e le loro forme. Per sua natura e posizione il nuovo giardino è un vero e proprio giardino segreto che si apre agli occhi del visitatore solo se questo si avvicina alla terrazza della villa. Leonardo Galli,doctor en medicina, cirujano militar durante la Guerra de Independencia española y miembro de la Academia de Ciencias Naturales y de la de Artes de Barcelona, entre otras, e instituciones de la talla del Real Cuerpo de Caballeros Guardias de Corps, es considerado el introductor en España de la traumatología experimental.
