Elève de Gérôme, Jules-Arsène Garnier (1847-1889) est l'auteur de nombreuses scènes de genres médiévales. Les 160 compositions furent saisies comme "attentatoires à la morale" lors de leur exposition dans la prude Angleterre victorienne, en 1890. Dans sa préface à l'ouvrage, Armand Silvestre écrit à propos de Jules Garnier : "Il a eu cette qualité maîtresse de Rabelais : la belle humeur. Il en a eu cette autre propriété rare : l'abondance. L'idée est donc heureuse de publier, en regard du texte, les images que celui-ci lui a inspirées". Bon état (dos lég. passé, sans les illustrations) pour cet exemplaire bien relié. Langue: Français.
