Soft cover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Published to accompany the landmark international exhibition that traveled from the High Museum of Art (Atlanta) to the Art Institute of Chicago and The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), this scholarly catalog examines Lorenzo Ghiberti's celebrated fifteenth-century bronze door…s for Florence's Baptistery - hailed by Michelangelo as the 'Gates of Paradise.' Edited by Renaissance art historian Gary M. Radke and featuring contributions from leading scholars, conservators, and restoration specialists, the volume combines art history, technical analysis, conservation science, and detailed photographic documentation of one of the defining masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance. Extensive color illustrations reveal the extraordinary sculptural detail, gilding, casting techniques, and restoration processes that are rarely visible in situ. Condition: Near Fine. Glossy pictorial softcover with minimal shelf wear and no notable creasing. Binding remains tight and square. Interior is exceptionally clean and bright with crisp pages and no writing, highlighting, or ownership markings observed. Color plates remain vivid and sharp throughout. A particularly attractive copy suitable for collectors, museum-library buyers, and students of Renaissance sculpture. First edition exhibition catalog published in 2007 by Yale University Press in conjunction with the major U.S. exhibition The Gates of Paradise: Lorenzo Ghiberti's Renaissance Masterpiece (Atlanta, Chicago, and New York, 2007-2008). No later printing indications observed. Gary M. Radke is a Professor Emeritus of Art History at Syracuse University, where he served as Dean's Professor of the Humanities and directed the Florence Graduate Program in Italian Renaissance Art for 35 years. He joined the faculty in 1980 and played a key role in elevating both the program and the Department of Art & Music Histories to international prominence. Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378-1455), the subject of this volume, was among the most influential sculptors of the early Renaissance; his bronze Baptistery doors in Florence transformed narrative relief sculpture and helped establish the artistic language that shaped generations of Renaissance masters.
