Radke is a Professor Emeritus of Art History at Syracuse University, where he served as Dean's Professor of the Humanities and directed the Florence Graduate Program in Italian Renaissance Art for 35 years. He joined the faculty in 1980 and played a key role in elevating both the program and the Department of Art & Music Histories to international prominence. Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378-1455), the subject of this volume, was among the most influential sculptors of the early Renaissance; his bronze Baptistery doors in Florence transformed narrative relief sculpture and helped establish the artistic language that shaped generations of Renaissance masters.
