La relation qu'il publia dès son retour à Naples (Giro del Mondo, 6 vol., 1699-1700) a été un des plus grands succèsde la littérature de voyage dans la première moitié du XVIIIe siècle. Le présent ouvrage reproduit , d'après l'édition de 1727, le journal de navigation de Gemelli Careri entre les Philippines et le Mexique, les pages consacrées à la Nouvelle Espagne et le journal de voyage de Vera Cruz à Cadix.
