There is a chapter on Ernest Hemingway, who camped in the Pigeon River Country and said he loved it "better than anything in the world." There are incredible photographs, the dramatic story of a 1984 incident at a dam, chapters on flora and fauna, and people speaking from the heart about woods and rivers. A member of the Republican Party, Ford assumed the presidency after the resignation of President Richard Nixon, under whom he had served as the 40th vice president from 1973 to 1974 following Spiro Agnew's resignation. Prior to that, he served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1949 to 1973. Ford was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The short letter expresses the Vice President's gratitude in response to a letter received from a Spokane, Washington resident. Letter is enclosed in original envelope postmarked from Washington, D.C. with a second signature printed and embossed above "Defeat Muscular Dystrophy Support MDAA.".
