Paperback. Condition: Good. As a result of two recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the U.S. Defense Department has given considerable attention to the issues of intelligence support to military operations. Much less effort has been spent on intelligence support to national security strategy write large and, specifically, support to overarching foreign and defense policy. This anthology, written in cooperation with the Center for Peace and Security Studies, Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, seeks to restore some balance to this debate. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. xvi+160 pages. Royal octavo (9 3/4" x 7") bound in dark green cloth with gilt lettering to spine. Philological Monographs of the American Philological Association, Number 28. First edition. Pindar (c518 BC-c438 BC) was an Ancient Greek lyric poet from Thebes. Of the canonical nine lyric poets of ancient Greece, his work is the best preserved. Some scholars in the modern age also found his poetry perplexing, at least until the 1896 discovery of some poems by his rival Bacchylides; comparisons of their work showed that many of Pindar's idiosyncrasies are typical of archaic genres rather than of only the poet himself. His poetry, while admired by critics, still challenges the casual reader and his work is largely unread among the general public Condition: Previous owner's name to front pastedown else very good.…
