Die Il…lustrationen (und vermutlich auch die Texte) stammen von der Künstlerin Roswitha Bitterlich, die 1933 als "Wunderkind" entdeckt wurde. Die damals 13jährige Österreicherin (geb. 24. 04. 1920 in Bregenz) hatte für ihren Bruder als Weihnachtsgeschenk ein Büchlein mit Aquararellen angefertigt, in dem findige Verleger ihr graphisches und dichterisches Talent erkannten. Das Buch erschien in einem Berliner Verlag. Es folgte die Arbeit an mehreren Sammelbildserien und -alben für die Peter Kölln-Haferflockenwerke sowie Ausstellungen in Kopenhagen (1937), London (1938) oder auch New York (1951) sowie Ausstellungen im deutschsprachigen Raum. Insbesondere in den 1930er Jahren ist die junge Künstlerin sehr produktiv und publiziert etwa im Jahrestakt selbstverfasste und -illustrierte Märchenbücher im Rosenheimer Berchtenbreiter Verlag.
