Naast de poëzie bevat de uitgave een levensbericht van De Jonghe, waarin zijn werk in context wordt geplaatst naast dichters als Michiel De Swaen. In de gedichten komen thematieken als liefde, religie, volksleven en lokale taal duidelijk naar voren. De editie belicht een kunstenaar die lang in vergetelheid was gebleven en nu literair-historisch herwaardeerd wordt.
