Add to baskethardcover. Condition: Acceptable. Please see the condition note after this for details, if this is missing please consider Acceptable to mean poor quality that could include major staining, water damage, writing, missing dustjacket, etc etc. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Hardback. Condition: New. In this new book, acclaimed photographer, Gideon Mendel, - performed a type of contemporary ethno-archaeology, evoking the camp resident's humanity through what was discarded. Visible ingrained dirt and ashes allow the viewer to sense the refugees' struggle to live ordinary lives under the most extraordinary circumstances. Mendel's alternative portraits of the Jungle residents are representative of the plight of displaced people across the globe. The book's title 'Dzhangal', is drawn from a Pashto word meaning 'This is the forest', the origin of the contentious term 'The Jungle'. The book will include over 40 photographs with texts by refugees, writer and broadcaster Paul Mason and art historian Dominique Malaquais.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Through Positive Eyes is a collaborative photo-storytelling project by 130 people living with HIV and AIDS around the world. All have participated in workshops led by South African photographer Gideon Mendel, with photo educator Crispin Hughes, and David Gere, director of the Art & Global Health Center at the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA). The project chronicles a very particular moment in the epidemic, when effective treatment is available to some, not all, and when the enduring stigma associated with HIV and AIDS has become entrenched, a major roadblock to both prevention and treatment. The participants in the project have volunteered to tell their stories, in words and in photographs, empowering themselves in order to banish stigma.
