Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Good. 1st Edition. n.d. c.1839/1840. Numerous full-page b.w. illustrative engravings, frontis. shows The Greenwich Railway, pp. iv, 240. Covers a great breadth of topics eg. physical geography (especially rivers), astronomy, fish and fishing, engineering (bridges, railways, lighthouses etc.), natural history, buildings from antiquity. Each is accompanied by a page or more of text and most are illustrated. Rebound in half black calf, with gilt lettering to spine, upper corners rubbed, binding firm, new endpapers, a repair to the foot of the title page and one of the plates, two small tears without loss and an inscription in contemporary hand to the top of the title page, minimal foxing although some browning to early pages only. An interesting book dating from the early Victorian era noted for its advances in science and technology. 8vo.
