Beautifully illustrated by Albert Gleizes, the founder of cubism. This copy is signed by both Gleizes and Allard. One of 35 copies inscribed by author & artist. This copy is numbered 28 and is printed on Hollande van Gelder paper.In the original French.This poetry collection is notable for its illustrations by Gleizes as Roger Allard was at the forefront of celebrating new French painters who concentrated on form rather than colour. Gleizes is known as the self-proclaimed founder of Cubism and this work demonstrates this style.The binding to this work is delicate in nature and therefore some of the gatherings have nearly failed. The pages remain extremely bright.An important example of early cubism, printed before Gleizes' major treatise was published. In the original paper wraps. Externally, the front and rear wraps are detached but present. The backstrip has also detached. Internally, binding is loosening in places. Pages are bright. Occasional light spots to pages. Albert Gleize (8 December 1881 23 June 1953) was a French artist, theoretician, philosopher, a self-proclaimed founder of Cubism and an influence on the School of Paris. Albert Gleizes and Jean Metzinger wrote the first major treatise on Cubism, Du "Cubisme", 1912. Gleizes was a founding member of the Section d'Or group of artists. He was also a member of Der Sturm, and his many theoretical writings were originally most appreciated in Germany, where especially at the Bauhaus his ideas were given thoughtful consideration. Gleizes spent four crucial years in New York, and played an important role in making America aware of modern art. He was a member of the Society of Independent Artists, founder of the Ernest-Renan Association, and both a founder and participant in the Abbaye de Créteil. Gleizes exhibited regularly at Léonce Rosenberg's Galerie de l Effort Moderne in Paris; he was also a founder, organizer and director of Abstraction-Création. From the mid-1920s to the late 1930s much of his energy went into writing, e.g., La Peinture et ses lois (Paris, 1923), Vers une conscience plastique: La Forme et l histoire (Paris, 1932) and Homocentrisme (Sablons, 1937). In-4, 206 p., livre illustré de 57 gravures originales, eaux-fortes, d'Albert Gleizes dont plusieurs hors-textes. Editions de la Cigogne Albert Gleizes, à la demande de l éditeur Jacques Klein, s attaqua à un travail de deux ans pour illustrer les Pensées de Pascal. Il en donna les clefs de compréhension dans son introduction au catalogue d exposition lors de la sortie de l ouvrage à Saint-Etienne en 1951 sous le titre « Pourquoi j'illustre les Pensées de Pascal ». Le texte original paru également dans le journal Arts/Beaux-Arts en date du vendredi 24 mars 1950. Signé par l'auteur.

Albert Gleizes réclame leretour desépreuves de son "Homocentrique etc", en échange d'un exemplaire de l'édition. Il annonce l'envoi de listes : "a) liste livre sur "le Cubisme" par J. Metzinger et moi et par moi seul b) liste ouvrages illustrés par moi [.]" et listes des poteries et céramiques "d'après compositions de moi".Gleizes ajoute que son correspondant recevra une partie de ces mêmes ouvrages sous peu "et quelques autres exemplaires d'ouvrages de moi, que de moi". Peintre cubiste, l'un des artistes majeurs de ce mouvement.
